Maury Wills Breaks NL Stolen Base Record

On September 7, 1962 Maury Wills broke the National League stolen base record formerly held by Bob Bescher with 4 steals in one game against the Pittsburgh Pirates who won the game 10-1. After the day was over Maury Wills had 82 stolen bases for the season.
People forget that players like Bob Bescher, Ty Cobb, Maury Wills and Lou Brock played a big part in the stolen base and in changing the outcome of games with their base stealing. Rickey Henderson shattered all the records but the base stealers before him set the table for his great accomplishments.
