On September 19, 1980 Al Kaline became the first player in franchise history to have his uniform number retired. The Hall of Famer, who wore the number 6, roamed the outfield for Detroit from 1953 to 1974. He finished his career with 399 home runs and a .297 batting average. He had a post season batting average of .333 with 3 home runs and 1 World Series ring.
