Ken Griffey Hits His 200th Home Run


May 21, 1901 - Andrew Freedman, fractious owner of the Giants, accuses umpire Billy Nash of incompetence and bars him from the Polo Grounds. One Pirates player and one from the Giants are forced to officiate.


May 21, 1923 - Formal transfer of T.L. Huston's interest in the Yankees to Jake Ruppert is completed for $1.5 million. Ten days later Ruppert buys two more sets of uniforms so his players can wear a clean outfit every day, an unprecedented move.


May 21, 1943 - The White Sox top the Washington Senators 1-0 in one hour and 29 minutes, the quickest night game in A.L. history.


May 21, 1996 - Ken Griffey, Jr. hits his 200th career home run at age 26. Only seven other players have done this more quickly, and six are in the Hall of Fame.


May21, 1997 - Roger Clemens becomes the 94th pitcher to win 200 games with a 4-1 win over the Yankees. The 34-year-old Blue Jays fireballer is now 8-0 with his new team en route to his fourth Cy Young Award.
